Background Information

Scott, 40 years old, a husband, proud father to 4 wonderful children, son, brother (my brother!), friend, farmer, lover of everything John Deere, and so much more. If you've found this blog you already know all this about Scott and you probably know the health trials he is facing. I wanted to start this blog to keep everyone updated and so Scott and our family can remember this and how far he has come.

About one year ago Scott started having various health problems and overall not feeling well. After a gamut of tests he was diagnosed with Alpha One Antitripysin deficiency. A genetic disorder that causes the liver to not produce enough of a protective protein called Alpha-One Antitripsyin. Without enough Alpha-One the liver, the lungs, or sometimes both can be negatively affected causing cirrhosis of the liver and/or emphysema in the lungs. We are grateful everyday that only Scott's liver has been affected.

In October of 2010, Scott was sent to IMC and told he would need a liver transplant. We looked forward to proceeding with this to provide Scott a long, healthy life.

Scott was battling another issue though, he was getting recurring cellulitis (infections) in his legs. If I remember right, his first case was in June of 2010. After multiple antibiotics Scott would get well. He savored this time but it seemed that another leg infection was always right around the corner. So when he started feeling that familiar, yet more intense this time, feeling of a oncoming leg infection on Wednesday May 18th, he headed straight to the doctor...
